MOVIE OPENING: 'CHARLIE ST. CLOUD'

Opening today (July 30th) is the new drama, Charlie St. Cloud, starring Zac Efron, Kim Basinger, Amanda Crew and Ray Liotta. The film follows a young sailor, Charlie St. Cloud, played by Efron, whose life gets thrown off track after tragedy strikes.

Charlie St. Cloud is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 1 hour and 50 minutes. The film was directed by Burr Steers.

Zac Efron says he was able to connect with his character: "The coolest part of the movie for me at this point has really been connecting with the character on a whole different level. It's been fun kind of stepping into Charlie's shoes and playing a guy who's down and out, and kind of you know down on his luck and doesn't really have much to live for. He's kind of just numb. That was interesting for me, I tend to play characters that are more energetic and full of life."

Kim Basinger says playing a mom who's lost a child is frightening: "I think it's a given, if you've lost a child and I've been through this a couple times, movie wise, and you are a mom, it's just a really frightening place to go."

Zac Efron on Charlie's role in in younger brother Sam's life: "Charlie's more than an older brother to Sam, he's almost like kind of like a father figure to him. He's a mentor and takes good care of him and he's trying to groom a strong younger brother, a kid who can fight for himself and can handle himself in a world where opportunities aren't handed to you."

The following clips are from Charlie St. Cloud:

Charlie talks to Tess about her boat: (Charlie) "This will completely change your boat. There's no drag, no virtually cavatation." (Tess) "Yeah I know. I wanted to do something similar but everyone told me strutural stability was more important." (Charlie) "That doesn't apply here." (Tess) "Why?" (Charlie) "Because this eliminates direct stress on the heel. Are you serious? Sorry."

Charlie tries to distance himself from Tess: (Tess) "Charlie, it's okay." (Charlie) "I can't lose Sam, Tess. Can't lose Sam." (Tess) "Let's go." (Charlie) "No." (Tess) "Let's go." (Charlie) "The more I'm in your world, the less I can be in his." (Tess) "Charlie, at some point we all have to let go." (Charlie) "I can't lose Sam, Tess."

Charlie teaches Sam how to play baseball: (Charlie) "Put your hand up, palms up. Seems these white seams? That's the correct way to hold a baseball." (Sam) "Didn't know I was gonna get to go to baseball camp this summer." (Charlie) "That's cause rich kids go to camp Sammy. Do you have a trust fund you're not telling me about?" (Sam) "No really. No." (Charlie) "No you don't. But you know what you do have." (Sam) "Good looks?" (Charlie) "No, you got me. Get back over there. Hustle!"
