Dante: Radio Talker Person

Hello, I’m Benjamin Dante; you can just call me Dante, or that guy on the radio or whatever. I live, eat, sleep and breathe music. Well, except when I am breathing air, or eating food or drinking coffee, and I don't know how one would really sleep music. But there is music on. Always. Much to my wife’s annoyance. Join me weekdays after The Bob and Tom Show. Along with a day full of Classic ROCK, I have your chance to show off your music knowledge with the Rock Quiz At 9:40. There’s also the 10:00 Rock Block and the All-Request Nooner!

The short story is I was born and raised in Western Nebraska. Growing up, my town had a great local radio station. It created the soundtrack for my youth, featuring Loven’ Every Minute of It, Tom Sawyer, Rain on the Scarecrow and for some reason Raspberry Beret. Then I ignored the warnings and discovered Heavy Metall. There wasn't any place to buy music in our town, and the internet was far in the future with the jet packs and hover boards. So most weekend were spent driving or begging rides to Scottsbluff, Sterling or Cheyenne to go to record stores.

In 19 something or other, I moved to Kearney, Nebraska for college. It only took two tries and 9 years to finish. After celebrated careers in the food service and retail industries (I have told many a person to pull to the second window) I got a job at a radio station. I started part time and ended up doing lots of different things there. While in Nebraska I got married and we had a son. We came to Sioux Falls in 2006 and I joined the Results Radio Team. I was on a couple different stations in the building and then I got the opportunity to be a part of the best station here; The Bee.

I tried to list all my favorite bands and artists here, but the internet ran out of room before I even got through the novelty records section.

But if I was going to go all High Fidelity and Top 5 It:

Artists

1)Megadeth

2)Guns N Roses

3)Johnny Cash

4)Metallica

5)Nirvana

Honorable Mention/Alternate: Weird Al Yankovic

Albums

1)Countdown to Extinction - Megadeth

2)In Utero - Nirvana

3)American Recordings, Unchained, American III - Cash

4)Load, Reload – Metallica (I know, I’m the only one)

5)Use your Illusion II – Guns And Roses

Honorable Mention/Alternate: Poodle Hat, Bad Hair Day – Weird Al

Songs

1)Another Brick in the Wall (parts 1 and 2. Ok and 3) – Pink Floyd

2)One - Metallica

3)Man in Black – Cash

4)Fortune Son - CCR

5)Banditos - Refreshments

Really, all these are in flux. And only current as of this second.

I am also all sorts of TV GEEK.

Star Trek. Especially Enterprise, Again, I’m probably the only one.

Newsradio, The best sitcom ever. Very little to do with radio and a lot to do with silliness.

Corner Gas, from our friends in Canada. Even less to do with radio but lots of small town silliness.

Also, The Office and 30 Rock.

And of course the greatest show ever: Mystery Science Theater 3000. I’ve long since given up trying to explain the show to those unfamiliar with it. A guy and two robots making fun of movies? Sure, but it is more. It is transcendent of all knowledge, a cornucopia of insight, and I got a neat T-shirt from the show! I’ll end this now before I go all clammy palmed, mom’s basement, geek on you.
