  • Day Care Investigation
    (Sioux Falls, SD) -- What's described as a suspicious injury to a 12-week-old baby boy is prompoting an investigation by Sioux Falls Police. Detective Loren McManus says the injury may have occurred while the infant was in daycare at 2604 South Avondale Avenue. McManus says it's an open and ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed. He says parents of children who attend the daycare have been told of the investigation and the closure of the daycare by the city until the case is complete.

  • Disaster Declaration Denied
    (Pierre, SD) -- The state of South Dakota is scrambling to find disaster assistance for 35 families whose homes were damaged in summer storms. FEMA denied South Dakota's request for an Individual Assistance Disaster Declaration for businesses and homes affected by the June storms. The declaration would have provided money to people impacted by the flooding. Now, officials are working to provide assistance through state-run programs. Governor Mike Rounds says he has identified several programs to help those recovering.

  • Aberdeen Actors to go Abroad
    (Toyoma, Japan) -- A troupe of actors from Aberdeen will go to Japan to compete in the World Festival of Children's Performing Arts. The cast and crew of the Aberdeen Community Theatre's production of Honk took top honors at the South Dakota Community Theatre One Act Play Festival. The group also won the regional and national contests that lead them to the performing arts competition in Toyoma, Japan. Honk is one of only two U.S. productions to represent the nation at the festival.

  • Herseth Sandlin to Meet with Vets
    (Rapid City, SD) -- Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is preparing for a listening session in Rapid City on Monday with troops returning from war. The field hearings will focus on the Transitional Assistance Program, that helps soldiers adjust to civilian life. Military personnel will share their thoughts on deployment and post-deployment services. This is the first South Dakota appearance for Herseth Sandlin since she announced her pregnancy.

  • Sex Offender Could Get 20 Years
    (Rapid City, SD) -- A repeat sex offender from Rapid City is looking 20 years of hard time for downloading and distributing child pornography. Ryan Murphey, 32, is also charged with rape in Pierre and another case of trading explicit images of children in Rapid City. Federal prosecutors allege that Murphey uploaded and downloaded the images in April and May of this year.

  • Open Meetings Commission to Meet
    (Pierre, SD) -- The South Dakota Open Meetings Commission will meet at 11am Thursday, July 31, at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. The agenda will include oral presentations on three open meeting complaints, involving the Minnehaha County Commission, USD Student Association and the City of Mitchell. The meeting is open to the public and those who are interested are encouraged to attend.
